For the first time the Landesmuseum Niederösterreich is presenting a dedicated overview of Grete Yppen’s oeuvre. The artist was born in 1917 and died in 2008. In the 1930s she studied under Boeckl at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and has since then created an expressionist-gestural oeuvre, which in its early phases was above all marked by the theme of the figure. In the 1950s she found an abstract pictorial language, which she developed towards a forceful way of painting determined by different aspects of colour. Correspondingly, the exhibition allows for a view into her ouevre as a draughtswoman, which she developed over half a century.
