Chronicle

1911 The Association for Regional Studies of Niederösterreich receives the Palais Caprara-Geymüller in Wallnerstraße as the first site of the Niederösterreichische Landesmuseum.

1924 The Landesmuseum moves into the Palais Clary-Aldringen in Herrengasse 9.

1951 Reopening after serious war damage. The Landesmuseum is now one of the most modern museums in Austria.

1996 The Landesmuseum in the Herrengasse is closed.

2000 Laying of the foundation stone of the Landesmuseum Niederösterreich in the St Pölten cultural district by Provincial Governor Erwin Pröll and architect Hans Hollein.

2002 Opening of the modern multi-functional museum.

2009 Opening after establishment of other facilities (lift from the underground garage, gastronomy with a glass pavilion for the warm season), design of the square between the festival hall and the Landesmuseum, new space for provincial history.

Exhibitions

Special exhibitions on provincial history
A new era in the still young history of the Landesmuseum Niederösterreich begins on 13 November 2009. The section on the province’s history now disposes of a new 300m2 exhibition space, allowing the exemplary presentation of the history and culture of Lower Austria within the framework of special exhibitions.

Sunday at the museum - everything for the family!

Every first Sunday of the month. The changing programmes provide for a wide range of opportunities to make yourself playfully familiar with the museum and to promote the exploratory spirit and the fantasy of the children.

 

Micro-Laboratory as a giant theatre
In its in-house cinema the Landesmuseum Niederösterreich offers an interesting supporting programme showing “live pictures“ from the microscope on the cinema screen. Documented and explained by experts, it reveals the miracle world of micro-organisms.
